Majorstuen is the only Norwegian band to be selected for Womex Showcase 2007.

Majorstuen visited Germany for the very first time - and what a fantastic experience!
We did three concerts at the TFF.Rudolstadt, and the audience is one of the most energetic we've ever seen.

After two instrumental albums that were higly appreciated and won the Norwegian Grammy, the fiddle-sextet Majorstuen wanted to do something new and different. This urge to create something innovative resulted in a Christmas album, focusing on the treasures of traditional Christmas songs.
Inviting some of the finest interpreters of Norwegian traditional folk song to a musical workshop, Majorstuen has made an album embracing the merry and jolly as well as the thoughtful and solemn moods of Christmas.

"A Christmas Dream" is the title of Majorstuens latest album, due to be released in November.
After a week in Rainbow Studios in Oslo, about half the work is done. A few days off now, and we'll start the last recording session.
Five of the leading folk singers in Norway contribute with traditional melodies on the album, still the lyrics are well-know to most people.

Majorstuen in Symphony

Majorstuen has spent the two last weeks in Israel, doing concerts with the Israel Kibbutz Orchestra. Director and composer Yaron Gottfried arranged some of Majorstuens tunes for Majorstuen and orchestra: Jorun Jogga, Angelica and Bleu.
What a great experience!
We had 8 great concerts, and the audience was fantastic! The clapping never seemed to stop!
It was the first time for Majorstuen to collaborate with an orchestra, but we hope it won´t be the last!
A special thanks to Amos and Juda for excellent guiding in Jerusalem and the Golan Heights!

Hilmar Award 2005

Majorstuen was given the Hilmar Award 2005. The Hilmar Award is an annual award given to outstanding norwegian folk musicians in memory of the fiddle virtuos Hilmar Alexendersen (1903-1993) from Trøndelag in Mid-Norway. Gjermund received the award on behalf of Majorstuen, since the rest of the gang was situated in Israel at the time of presentation.

The last concert in the summer season….

...takes place on the North Sea Festival – Sailors Wake.
Planning the autumn is nearly complete – Majorstuen will do concerts in Klepp and Bergen in September, and in Oslo in October. And if you by any chance should be in Azerbaijan in September or in Israel in November, you might catch a glint of us there!

Young Folk Musicians of the Year 2005!

After compeeting against wonderful musicians like Tindra, Adjagas and Gjermund Larsen, Majorstuen won the great INTRO-folk Finale in Fagernes last weekend, and was appointed ”Young Folk Musicians of the Year” by the Norwegian Concert Institute.

The World Meets in Førde

The World Comes to Førde was the title of this years opnening concert at Førde International Folk Music Festival. Majorstuen gave the festival a flying start, and were the first ones to enter the stage playing ”Run Jorun, Run!” and ”White Crosses”. We´re looking forward to the rest of the festival, and tomorrow we´re sharing concert with Mory Kanté, ”the King of World Music”. Splendid!

Intro-folk semifinales have started, and Majorstuen qualified for the great finale after doing a nice concert in Hallingdal last weekend. Compeeting against the lovely stamporgan and accordion duo Gammel-likt-se was a great experience, and we thank the jury for believing in us! See you all at the Intro-folk finale in Fagernes later this summer!

Majorstuen Part of New Launching Programme

The Norwegian Concert Institute recently introduced a new launching programme, INTRO-folk, for young norwegian folkmusicians.
Among 30 applicants, Majorstuen was chosen for the programme and are together with 7 other groups and soloists compeeting to be the young folkmusicians of the year!

Montreal!

At this very moment, we´re sitting in the lobby at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Montreal. The Folk Alliance and Strictly Mundial conferences are over, and our businesscards and cd´s are spread around the world! It was cool to be in the official showcase-programme, and it´s going to be exciting to see if this gets us any further... Now we're on our way home!

October 10th Majorstuen went overseas to Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. We stayed for a week and played conserts on the Celtic Colours Festival. In the spare time we had a lot of lobsters... Splendid!

17th - 20th august Majorstuen went to a cabin in the woods outside Oslo to record the new cd. Good food, atmosphere, music and skindipping in Blankwater made the stay a success! Thanks to grandmother Else, Trond and Audun.

Brest Festival 2004

On Saturday we went to Brest and played at a festival there until Tuesday. We were hired by the Norwegian Embassy in Paris, and we would like to thank them for being so fantastic and taking so good care of us.

Finally we are on our way to France. We have rented a house outside Brest, and are staying there this week preparing for our new album.
The plane was overbooked, but Tove happily volunteered to sit in front in the cockpit, chatting with the pilots!

This Saturday Majorstuen won the Norwegian Grammy Award for the best norwegian folkmusic album. We are incredible happy and proud, and we had a great celebration Saturday night...

January 10th Majorstuen went to France for the first time. We played conserts throughout the weekend and ended up in Paris Sunday evening. Fiddler and dancer Vegar Vårdal and his partner Mette joined us, and were danceinstructors at the festival in Brètigny-sur-Orge. A great trip!

January 17th Majorstuen went to Bergen to do a gig at Colombi Egg's 5 year anniversary. According to Gabriel Fliflet at Columbi, Majorstuen is known as a real partyband (!?), and we tried our best to confirm that reputation!!
